BOMB THREAT GROUNDS BA FLIGHT IN BERMUDA

A British Airways transatlantic flight bound for London from Bermuda had to abort take-off due to a bomb threat to the aircraft.  The threat was emailed to LF Wade airport just as the flight with 197 people on board was due to leave Sunday night. Passengers disembarked and were accommodated in Bermuda overnight.

Local roads were closed to traffic “while the airport building and its environs were searched by airport security” a spokesman for the Bermuda police service said.

“Staff also advised that emergency landing protocols had been initiated at the airport. Once the all-clear was given and the airport was declared safe, regular traffic flow was restored.”

An incident report issued on Monday morning that “at approximately 9 pm, LF Wade International Airport received a bomb threat sent to the airport offices via e-mail threatening the terminal and British Airways flight 158, which was due to depart for London Heathrow.

A statement also said that, “Flight operations at L.F. Wade International Airport continue as scheduled while the Bermuda Police Service and local and international aviation security officials continue to investigate the incident.”
