TRAVEL ABCs: Bavaria, Germany

“What’s your favourite place?” – a question I’ve been asked more times than I can recall over the years, and one that’s nearly impossible to answer. So, I’ve made a list that spans the globe, from Aachen to Zurich and every letter in between: My ABCs, though not nearly as simple as 1 2 3. Today, B is for Bavaria:

Oktoberfest in Munich is an annual rite, The Passion Play in Oberammergau a once-a-decade spectacle, and Neuschwanstein arguably the mostly spectacular castle in the world and the inspiration for Disney’s Cinderella castle.

But, is there any prettier picture than a rustic dark wood-panel cottage in Bavaria with multi-coloured flowers spilling out of window boxes, white-capped mountains in background? So inspiring that I proposed to my wife there – in Rothenburg ob der Tauber along the Romantic Road.

Rothenburg

Bavaria may be the biggest state in Germany, but it’s the little things that make it special.

Honourable mention: Berlin

Bucket list: Buenos Aires

Unlike the song, I have not been everywhere, so please don’t wonder why one of your favourites wasn’t one of mine. Instead, tell me at baginski@travelindustrytoday.com. I’m already thinking about my next list.
