16 AUG 2019: Last weekend Sunwing Vacations and RIU Hotels and Resorts cohosted a pool party at Toronto’s Cabana Pool Bar. The idea was to promote RIU’s new entertainment program ‘RIU Party’ and this was certainly the best venue to get the “party” idea across! It’s been some time since this aging Boomer went to a scantily clad Millennials pool party – but it was certainly – well, WOW!
It was a beautiful afternoon, with beautiful views of the lake and the Toronto skyline, and with beautiful (and interesting) views from the upper deck of the ‘party central’ on the main floor. Of course there was a DJ, and an amazing number of Bachelorette Parties with bride-to-be, bridesmaids-to-be and guests, in ruthlessly abbreviated (one assumes) versions of their actual outfits-to-be.
Constant little parades of drummers (of the marching-with-a-tin-drum variety), and bikini clad young women and non-bikini clad guys all holding up greeting signs delivered bottles of liquor to the various tables. (Order Grey Goose and you got a big silver bird in your parade). Bikini clad girls danced on the bar and young men in (mainly) baggy – though sometimes brief – and young women in (mainly) skimpy outfits danced, drank, ate, took selfies and generally appeared to be having a fabulous time.
RIU and Sunwing could not have chosen a more appropriate setting to highlight RIU’s pool parties which are being celebrated at two resorts: the Riu Santa Fe in Los Cabos Mexico and Riu Palace Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The parties are held in both the daytime and the evening depending on the theme and will offer talented local DJ’s and entertainment.
The pool parties are also accessible to guests at (Los Cabos): Riu Palace Baja California, Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas, and Riu Santa Fe and (Punta Cana) Riu Bambu, Riu Naiboa, Riu Palace Bavaro, Riu Palace Macao, and Riu Palace Punta Cana.
RIU Parties currently have 4 themes:
- White Party: an evening pool party with a white linen theme
• Neon Party: a night time pool party with neon lights and glow sticks.
• Pink Party: a daytime pool party where everything is pink
• Jungle Party: a daytime pool party with an animal print theme
