FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD: New York doubles down on dining

New York’s popular Restaurant Week (July 18-Aug. 21) has in effect become restaurant month – and restaurant month is now really restaurant year with the launch of “Savor NYC,” a year-long culinary program designed to “continue celebrating the City’s world-class dining scene.”

The initiative, which comes as Restaurant Week celebrates its 30th anniversary, is designed to “spotlight the culinary community across the City’s multicultural neighbourhoods…” according to NYC & Company president and CEO Fred Dixon, and expand on the annual Restaurant Week dining program, which offers discounted pre-set menus (and fixed price wine) at more than 650 restaurants across all five boroughs with more than 60 different styles of cuisines in 85 neighbourhoods.

Designed to encourage locals and visitors alike to explore the City’s vast, diverse, and accessible restaurant scene (while helping to support small businesses, the industry, and its workers), the Savor NYC campaign will highlight monthly content including multicultural dining (including Black-owned restaurants), LGBTQ+ chefs, street carts, established restaurants, accessible and sustainable cuisines, culinary events and more across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

Content will be offered on NYCGO.com across social and traditional media platforms.

In sum, Savor NYC, says NYC & Company, is an initiative designed to “double down” on the elements of New York that make the city “the most celebrated dining destination in the world.”

Restaurant Week

Meanwhile, this year’s restaurant week (celebrated since 1992) continues through Aug. 21. Running Monday through Friday (with the option to participate on Sundays), participating restaurants are offering either a two-course lunch or three-course dinner prix-fixe menu of menu items. Inclusive price points are US$30, $45 or $60, depending on the restaurant, and more than 100 restaurants will also offer $30 bottles of wine to commemorate the 30th anniversary, available on participating menus.
