FINE FOR SOME: Conservative MPs can continue to travel

Conservative leader Erin O'Toole

Canada’s Conservative MPs are the only major federal politicians who are not being told to obey health guidelines and refrain from non-essential international travel because of COVID-19’s new variant. Liberal and NDP counterparts have been told to stay home.

Yesterday, the federal Liberal government issued a new advisory urging Canadians to avoid non-essential international travel because of the threat posed by the Omicron variant.

A Liberal official says the governing party’s MPs have been informed they are to abide by the public health advice and avoid non-essential international travel.

NDP party whip Rachel Blaney says her caucus has also been advised to avoid non-essential international travel.

However, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole says in a statement there is no international travel ban in place and he believes the advisory is to help those who are vaccinated make informed decisions about their travel plans.

O’Toole says as Canadians, members of the Conservative caucus can continue to travel internationally.
