FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT: Masks Back Even for the Vaxxed

Just when you thought we could at least show our faces while we’re having fun, the pesky virus is forcing cruise lines to set new rules and testing even for those who have been fully vaccinated.

Carnival Cruise Line’s normally jovial brand ambassador John Heald revealed “something that probably is going to be a little displeasing” to guests in his Facebook blog. As of Aug. 7, all cruise passengers — regardless of vaccination status — will be required to wear masks in most indoor areas while on board, including elevators, casinos, shops, and shows. Masks will not be required in outdoor spaces or when eating and drinking

And beginning August 14, all guests will be required to show proof of a negative PCR test taken within three days of boarding.

“We have to keep cruising going and this is what we have to do,” Heald said, noting the decision was in line with rules at other entertainment venues such as Disney parks and Las Vegas. “We have to be careful and we have to get this right, and we will continue to make whatever changes we need to in order for the fun to continue.” He added he hoped that guests would understand and reminded everyone that “It is not forever.”

Other cruise lines that are allowing the vaccinated to go without masks after boarding are keeping an eye on the situation as breakthrough cases are being seen on ship and shore.
