DISNEY CRUISES TO REIMAGINE A GIANT NEW SHIP

Disney Cruise Line has acquired a ship that will be among the largest in the world. The Walt Disney Co. became the highest bidder for the Global Dream, that was left half built when Genting Hong Kong, which also owned Crystal Cruises, declared bankruptcy.

The ship will be completed by the same builder, German shipyard Meyer Werft, that produced three other Disney ships, the company said in a blog post. It was originally ordered to carry 9,000 guests (you read that correctly) but Disney says they are going to scale it down to only 6,000, with about 2,300 crew. Because it was designed to have several casinos and Disney doesn’t allow gambling there will be more space for family attractions as well.
