CYBERATTACK HITS INTERCONTINENTAL HOTELS GROUP:

InterContinental Hotels Group, (IHG) has confirmed it was hit by a cyberattack that has disrupted its online booking systems and caused customers to experience issues with online bookings since Monday. The UK headquartered company operates some of the world’s largest hotel chains, including the Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza and Regent hotels. It serves more than 150 million guests each year, and runs more than 6,000 hotels in over 100 countries, including over 3,000 in the US.

IHG posted a website message stating: “At this time, you may have challenges booking a new reservation, accessing information about your upcoming reservations and accessing your IHG One Rewards account.”

In a statement IHG said its IT systems were hit with ‘unauthorised activity’ and it
has brought in external cyber specialists to help investigate and bolster security.

The statement said, “IHG is working to fully restore all systems as soon as possible and to assess the nature, extent and impact of the incident. We will be supporting hotel owners and operators as part of our response to the ongoing service disruption. IHG’s hotels are still able to operate and to take reservations directly.”
