CREW BRINGS CLASS ACTION SUIT: Claim uniforms cause health problems

08 AUG 2017: American Airlines flight crew are suing the company over their new uniforms. The action follows thousands of complaints over the past few months about ‘adverse reactions’ including rashes, headaches, fatigue, and even respiratory problems, with over 3,500 complaints logged according to a union official.

American Airlines and the uniform manufacturer, Twin Hill, have said there is no evidence to suggest the uniforms cause any ill effects to health.

However, two flight attendants have now filed a class action lawsuit asking the uniform manufacturer Twin Hill and the airline to recall all the uniforms issued to about 60,000 workers.

The lawsuit claims “thousands of American Airlines flight attendants and pilots began reporting serious adverse reactions only after the new uniforms were introduced”.

American spokeswoman Lakesha Brown said: “We would never ask our team members to wear an unsafe uniform.” And the airline has given crew the option of wearing an alternative uniform.

Twin Hill said, “Nothing in the complaint filed by two American Airlines flight attendants changes the fact that there is absolutely no evidence linking any of the symptoms alleged to our uniforms.”

A judge will determine whether the lawsuit can move ahead with class action status.
