CAN CRUISING GET TO CORO-NORMAL BY SUMMER: There’s Hope

A few ships are starting to test the water, but it may be summer before much cruising happens, at least in North America. The dates for restarting cruising have been pushed back repeatedly, with Crystal Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings now not planning to sail until June. Carnival Corp. and Royal Caribbean brands along with Disney Cruises are still hoping to sail in May.

But, remember last fall when when the lines were planning to resume cruising before the end of 2020? Royal Caribbean and Norwegian developed Healthy Sail guidelines and U.S. Centers for Disease Control said they’d give the go ahead as soon as lines did test cruises with volunteers to see how well they worked.

A holiday second wave put all those plans on hold. While thousands of eager cruisers have signed up as test subjects, no line has yet announced when their shakedown cruises will happen.
