Sunwing has announced the opening of Riu Latino, RIU Hotels and Resorts’ newest product in Costa Mujeres, Mexico. Starting October 1, customers can experience RIU’s exceptional service and product quality at this brand-new adults only (18+) beachfront property.
With travel picking up, Costa Mujeres seems to be the hottest destination in Mexico this season, RIU already has a couple of hotels in the area, (available exclusively to Canadians through Sunwing) so Travel Industry Today had some questions for Jennifer Lucas, Director of Product for Sunwing Vacations, the first being why another RIU in Mexico?
“We have seen growing customer demand for all inclusive travel to Costa Mujeres, Mexico in recent years.” She told us, “Costa Mujeres is situated just north of Cancun’s Hotel Zone but is slightly removed from the hustle and bustle, offering a relaxing escape on a prime beachfront location. The addition of the brand new Riu Latino is about driving scale and expanding the RIU offering to provide even more choice to valued customers across the brand’s dynamic portfolio of resorts throughout Mexico.
This is an ‘adults only’ resort – they seem to be becoming more popular – any suggestions as to why?
Adults only resorts are increasing in popularity because they cater to customers looking for an escape from the everyday stresses of life and affords them an opportunity to reconnect – whether that’s a reunion with adult family members, a getaway with a group of friends or a romantic retreat for two said Lucas.
“After approximately two years where Canadians may not have travelled as much as they would like, it’s even more important for customers to get away from their daily life to indulge in a tropical escape that is catered exclusively to adults. Plus, Sunwing customers headed to Riu Latino will enjoy taking advantage of RIU’s Adults Only extras such as premium brand drinks, a specialty wine list ($) and a romantic outdoor dinner ($), upon request.”
We wondered whether the focus on the ‘romantic’ aspects of the resort, make it more attuned to ‘couples’ rather than singles or LGBTQ guests.
“There really is something for everyone at Riu Latino – from couples to groups of friends, or individuals travelling on their own.” Said Lucas.
“Those looking for romance will enjoy the range of amenities available at the on-site spa, including a steam room, relaxation pools and therapeutic massage treatments. They’ll also enjoy spacious and contemporary accommodations where they can order room service, or they may choose to arrange a special outdoor dinner for two for an added cost.”
She noted however, that, “solo travellers will be just as happy at Riu Latino. With free Wi-Fi throughout the resort, they can stay connected to friends and family back home, or even book a workcation where they can be plugged into work remotely while lounging on the beach or by one of the pools. Groups of friends will enjoy access to the on-site Splash Water World water park, and the live music and shows that take place nightly. Meanwhile, fitness buffs will enjoy the resort’s modern fitness facilities and daily fitness programming with RiuFit. And, of course, no matter customers’ travel style, there are a range of great dining options to choose from at the resort, from a buffet to international cuisine such as Italian and Asian, plus spots for quick bites between meals.”
We wondered if Sunwing seeing an upsurge in travel, and is Mexico a favoured destination as travel begins to restart?
Absolutely, said Lucas. Mexico is well-loved by Sunwing customers for its phenomenal beaches, excellent food and rich local culture.
“Plus, Mexico is considered one of our easy entry destinations which means there are minimal travel requirements for entering the country, making it an excellent choice for Canadians looking to head back to the tropics. Customers can simply contact their travel agent to book their preferred travel dates, pack their bags and then enjoy their dream vacation at Riu Latino with ease!”
Hugo Aguilera, Director of Partner Marketing & Business Development for USA & Canada answered the question as to whether there are any plans for new RIU properties or resorts in the near future.
“RIU continues to look at opportunities in key markets and will share more on upcoming projects as they are confirmed.”
