Two small cruise lines have become the first to mandate that all guests prove they’ve had their COVID-19 shots before getting on a ship. But industry watchers are saying the trend could spread as lines examine ways to ensure safety of guests when they resume cruising.
American Queen Steamboat Co. and Victory Cruise Lines, both owned by the same company, are mandating vaccination for all passengers, crew and tour coach drivers on all sailings beginning July 1. However, the lines hope to start sailing in April.
Until now, only niche company Saga Cruises, has said it will require proof of vaccination before boarding. However, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, which includes Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises is studying the issue after announcing that all crew will have to be vaccinated before showing up for duty.
