WILL IMMUNITY PASSPORTS BECOME MANDATORY FOR CRUISING?

As vaccines finally roll out, there’s growing confidence that cruising can safely resume after what will become a year-long shutdown. But a new uncertainty is arising: Will passengers be required to have a vaccination certificate before they’re allowed to board a ship?

The issue has been a hot topic since Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Frank Del Rio said “lawyers are looking at that issue as we speak,” during a Zoom interview with John Lovell, president of Travel Leaders Group.

It will certainly be a requirement for the crew,” he said. “But it’s too early to tell whether we have the legal standing to mandate that (passengers) take a vaccine to come aboard.”
