A long-awaited set of health rules for cruise ships sailing from US ports specify you’ll need to wear masks in any public area while on board, even around the pool.
It’s part of a weighty operating manual from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for pandemic safety as cruises resume. It may not be the final word, though, because it’s aimed at test cruises which were part of the restart plan laid out last fall before vaccine programs began. Now that a number of cruise lines are requiring full vaccination of guests, the test cruises might not have to be done before revenue sailings resume.
However, Frank Del Rio, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings called the guidelines “numerous and onerous” and said they threaten the company’s July target for getting back to sailing. “Additional clarification is needed on how the incorporation of vaccine requirements impacts the conditional sail order and our path forward,” he added.
