You can’t help but be awed by the beauty of the lush Costa Rican coast. And somehow things get more awe-inspiring as you go into the uplands and jungles. We’re about to experience a panorama of the country’s tropical nature and the plethora of wildlife that calls it home on a complimentary tour from American Queen Voyage’s new Ocean Victory.
The 180-guests expedition ship can visit places big cruise ships can’t reach and our stop today on the northwest corner of Costa Rica is particularly remote. The ship has to anchor far off shore in the scenic bay of volcanic Playas del Coco to avoid damaging shoreside reefs.
There are no docks, so the ship’s expedition team ferries us by zodiac to the dark sand beach. A sparkling clean bus is waiting to take us for an hour’s drive to a river where nature still rules supreme.
