An argument over carry-on bags at Detroit Airport escalated into a fight that sent one airline employee to hospital and saw two passengers arrested. The scuffle started after gate agents wanted passengers to confirm their carry-on bags were the correct sizes for the aircraft cabin.
“The gate agents asked the group to verify that their carry-on bags were sized appropriately for the aircraft before boarding, at which time the passengers became combative,” the airline said.
“The agents attempted to defuse the situation calmly but were physically assaulted by these passengers as they closed a door to stop them from boarding the aircraft.”
Naturally the scene was caught on video and uploaded to social media.
A second employee was also injured but didn’t require hospital treatment.
Wayne Country Airport Authority Police confirmed two arrests were made and Spirit has banned the customers from flying with them again.
A third passenger was issued with a citation.
The carrier said the three passengers then boarded the flight to Atlanta without permission.
“This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business,” the airline added.
