WALKOUT CAUSES DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS AT LUFTHANSA:

German airline Lufthansa said up to 100,000 passengers could be affected over February 07 and 08 as Verdi union members at Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Duesseldorf airports walked out early on Wednesday due to an ongoing pay dispute. The walkout impacted check-in, ground handling and maintenance operations and caused hundreds of flight cancellations and delays.

Approximately one in five flights were expected to run at the two busiest airports, Frankfurt and Munich.

Union Verdi is seeking a pay increase of 12.5% for staff.

Lufthansa posted the following on its website:

Information for Lufthansa guests with flights on February 7 or 8

“The trade union Verdi had called on ground staff at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo and other companies to go on a 27-hour warning strike on Wednesday and Thursday (February 7-8, 2024).

“Lufthansa plans to gradually resume flight operations in Frankfurt and Munich after the end of the Verdi strike on Thursday morning. Due to the massive impact of the strike on our flight operations, there may still be a few delays or flight cancellations throughout Thursday.

“We regret the inconvenience to our guests.

“Important: Please only come to the airport if your flight has not been cancelled. Due to the strike, the rebooking counters are unfortunately not staffed.”
