Canadian are making a noteworthy shift towards villa rentals and luxury stays in response to post-Covid dynamics, according to travel advisors polled at First in Service (F1S) as part of a survey focussing on the key and evolving trends shaping the 2024 landscape for luxury stays, villa rentals, and unique lodging options.

“Luxury and personalized experiences continue to dominate the preferences of our travellers, with a notable shift towards unique, boutique properties and private rentals,” says Fernando Gonzalez, CEO of First in Service.

Insights from the survey say:

Rise in luxury and boutique hotel properties

Luxury and personalized experiences continue to dominate the preferences of travellers, with a notable shift towards unique, boutique properties and premium upgrades.

There’s a noticeable trend towards upgrading to suites and junior suites, as noted by F1S travel advisor Crystal Lynn Lambkin, reflecting a desire for enhanced comfort and exclusivity.

Surge in bookings of private villas and vacation rentals

Villas continue to emerge as a popular choice for luxury and group travel, offering a sense of exclusivity and personalized service, agree advisors Jay Rabinovich and Erica Tu, who add that multigenerational families and groups of friends are opting for these accommodations, seeking spacious and communal living spaces for their travels.

Meanwhile, Claudia Chad also pointed out the importance of accommodations that cater to families’ needs, further emphasizing this trend.

Other emerging trends

F1S travel advisor insights also pinpointed emerging trends such as clients’ preference for offerings from preferred partners thanks to the exclusive amenities offered, as noted by F1S travel advisor Linda Montemarano.

Proactive planning has become essential to secure favourable rates for European trips amidst rising costs, according to F1S travel advisor Jessica Donath.

And there is a growing demand for pet-friendly accommodations and those with kitchen facilities, as observed by Michelle Green, catering to longer stays and travellers’ specific requirements.

Gonzalez concluded: “The insights gleaned from our survey underscore the changing landscape of accommodations and lodging preferences among travellers,” adding, “As the travel industry continues to adapt to new norms, we remain committed to providing our clients with tailored experiences that meet their evolving needs and preferences.”
