The CDC is advising unvaccinated people in the US not to travel during the upcoming Labor Day weekend amid a surge of Delta variant infections across the country. “If you are unvaccinated, we would recommend not traveling,” CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said at a White House Covid briefing.
Only people who are fully vaccinated and wear masks should travel, she said.
“Throughout the pandemic, we have seen that the vast majority of transmission takes place among unvaccinated people in closed indoor settings,” said Walensky.
“Masks are not forever, but they are for now.”
The agency recommends spending time outdoors with other vaccinated family and friends as much as possible over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Although the rate is falling, there are still more than 100,000 cases daily.
The AAA said that damage assessment is not complete, and regionally travel may still be suffering the after-effects of Hurricane Ida. It recommends drivers check current weather forecasts and take special care if travelling to, from or through hurricane ravaged Louisiana and Mississippi.
