TRAVEL ABCs: Cappadocia, Turkey

“What’s your favourite place?” – a question I’ve been asked more times than I can recall over the years, and one that’s nearly impossible to answer. So, I’ve made a list that spans the globe, from Aachen to Zurich and every letter in between: My ABCs, though are not nearly as simple as 1-2-3. Today, C is for Cappadocia:

Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia is an experience one will never forget: desert moonscape and royal blue sky conjoined on the horizon, dotted by dozens of balloons of every size and colour hovering at all elevations across the 360-degree panorama. Breathtaking.

Back on ground in the central Turkish heartland, visitors will discover the area’s famed fairytale chimneys and other remarkable rock formations, not to mention all manner of structures bored into volcanic rock: Churches, homes, hotels, and an entire city – Derinkuyu – that once housed 20,000 residents.

Staying in a cave hotel rocks!

It’s also the place to look for a famous Turkish carpet at one of the area’s many factories or shops (watch them being made) – much cheaper than at home (and they’ll ship it).

Honourable mention: Cotswolds, England

Bucket list: Copenhagen

Unlike the song, I have not been everywhere, so please don’t wonder why one of your favourites wasn’t one of mine. Instead, tell me at baginski@travelindustrytoday.com. I’m already thinking about my next list.
