TICO LISTS CLAIMS PROTOCOLS FOR CANADA JETLINES

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario has posted a closure advisory, including claims protocols, for Canada Jetlines, which ceased operations on Aug. 15, and was declared bankrupt on Sept. 11, 2024. On the same date, Canada Jetlines Vacations terminated its TICO registrations.

Canada Jetlines Vacations

TICO says it had previously received confirmation that Canada Jetlines Vacations had cancelled all future vacation package bookings (hotel and airfare) and issued refunds to affected consumers.

  • Those that had a future package booking with Canada Jetlines Vacations are advised to monitor their credit card statement for the refund. This applies to packages purchased either from Canada Jetlines Vacations directly or through a TICO-registered travel agency or website.
  • If a refund has not been received, contact TICO (details below).

Canada Jetlines

Consumers who purchased their Canada Jetlines air-only travel services through a TICO-registered travel agency or booking website and who have not received the travel services or a refund may have an eligible claim against the Compensation Fund.

  • Consumers who have not received a refund for their Canada Jetlines booking may request a claim form at tico@tico.ca.
  • Consumers who purchased airfare only directly from Canada Jetlines or through a travel agency/booking website outside of Ontario are NOT eligible for reimbursement through the Compensation Fund.

Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund

Consumers may have an eligible claim against the Compensation Fund in the below instances if they have not received their travel services or a refund due to the closure of Canada Jetlines and/or Canada Jetlines Vacations:

  • Canada Jetlines Vacations travel services purchased either directly from Canada Jetlines Vacations or from a TICO-registered travel agency or booking website; and
  • Canada Jetlines airline travel services purchased from a TICO-registered travel agency or booking website.
  • There is a legislated six-month filing deadline for claims on the Compensation Fund. The filing deadline is March 12, 2025. Claims received by TICO after the filing deadline date will not be valid.

Before filing a claim

TICO advises that that the legislation requires claimants to explore all other possible options for reimbursement as part of the claims process. These include:

  1. Credit cards:
  • All consumers who paid by credit card and were charged by the airline should contact their credit card company to request a chargeback (refund).
  • If your credit card company refuses to provide you with a refund, you will be required to obtain a letter from the credit card company stating that a credit refund will not be issued.
  • The letter from the credit card company must be submitted with your claim against the Compensation Fund.
  • If you are unable to obtain a refund (chargeback) from your credit card company or obtain all the documentation required to substantiate your claim in a timely manner, please submit your claim form to TICO prior to the deadline date.
  • Any additional documentation that is required to complete the claim can be sent to TICO when it is obtained.
  1. Travel Insurance:
  • Consumers who have travel insurance must make a claim with their insurance company.
  • If the claim is refused, you must provide written proof of refusal of the claim.
  • If you are unable to obtain a reimbursement from your travel insurance company or obtain all the documentation required to substantiate your claim in a timely manner, submit your claim form to TICO prior to the deadline date.
  • Any additional documentation that is required to complete the claim can be sent to TICO when it is obtained.
