Officials say a woman injured six sheriff’s deputies while refusing to exit a plane In Louisiana early Thanksgiving Day was a former New Jersey governor’s niece and bragged that her “uncle knows Trump.”
Authorities said 25-year-old Sharon Epstein bit, kicked, and spit on Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and generally ran amok on the New Jersey-bound Spirit Airlines also accusing a Hispanic family of smuggling cocaine.
Deputies were responding to Spirit airline workers’ requests to remove the woman, who had reportedly grown irate and asked nearby passengers who she assumed to be Latino whether they were smuggling cocaine. Paramedics treated the deputies on site, according to local news reports.
Epstein allegedly injured six sheriff’s deputies in the attack, kicking one in the groin and even biting one of them so hard that she broke the skin during her angry tirade.
The furious Epstein became violent when approached by authorities and had to be handcuffed to a wheelchair by seven different sheriff’s deputies as she was forced off the plane, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Capt. Jason Rivarde told NOLA.com.
Police charged Epstein with six counts of battery on a police officer, three counts of disturbing the peace, one count of resisting arrest by force and another count of remaining after forbidden, according to reports. She was released from Jefferson Parish Correctional Center later that day after paying $10,750 bail and is scheduled for a Jan. 23 court date.
Epstein, who has removed her social media following her arrest, boarded the 6 a.m. Spirit Airlines flight from New Orleans to New Jersey on Thanksgiving morning.
Reports of passengers’ bad behaviour have skyrocketed since air travel has increased after early pandemic shutdowns.
