One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, the Sheraton Centre Toronto, is welcoming guests again following completion of the first phase of renovations that are part of the Marriott hotel brand’s global design transformation. The makeover, which saw the hotel close for the first time in its nearly 50-year history, will be completed in the first half of 2022.
When finished, the property – ideally situated kitty-corner to the Eaton Centre and overlooking the ice rink/fountain of Nathan Phillips Square (city hall) – will boast a complete re-imagination of the hotel’s porte cochère, lobby, pool deck, and 43rd floor Sheraton Club; introduction of new lobby-level collaboration studios and soundproof booths; and upgrade of the food and beverage program.
The project follows the completion of a similar and even more expansive redesign in November of the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at Toronto airport.
Sheraton Centre GM Tim Reardon says the remake signifies a new chapter for the hotel, stating, “It’s been a long-awaited transformation and we are thrilled to unveil the first of many new looks to our classic… hotel.”
Sheraton’s new global vision features key design elements that aim to create an environment where guests can feel comfortable and at ease, whether working, meeting, or recharging. Drawing on its roots as a community hub for locals and guests at flagship locations globally, the new approach for Sheraton is meant to provide an intuitive and holistic experience with places to connect, be productive, and feel part of a larger community.
The Toronto location is among the first Sheraton properties in Canada to unveil new vision with first-phase enhancements including the Sheraton Club Lounge. Featuring spectacular floor-to-ceiling skyline views, the hotel’s famous 43rd floor Sheraton Club on the 43rd floor premium space for Marriott Bonvoy Elite members has a completely new look and feel, with a revamped interior designed to make the most of the spectacular setting for guests to meet, work and connect over coffee, food, and cocktails. The new design pays homage to Toronto with bespoke artwork and accents representative of local history and landmarks.
Phase 2
The second phase of the transformation will introduce a stunning and modernized new lobby, re-imagining the shared space as the “Public Square” of the hotel, where people can gather together or be alone amongst others, creating a sense of energy and belonging. The intuitive layout anticipates guests’ needs with thoughtful amenities within an arm’s reach, all set against an inviting backdrop that feels warm and comfortable yet refined.
Also, set to be unveiled this winter is a new food and beverage program with Toronto chef Andre Walker at the helm. The hotel will offer new food and beverage outlets, and a transformed banquets and catering experiences.
In the final phase of hotel renovations, Toronto’s largest heated indoor/outdoor pool will return in spring 2022. With a glass wall barrier to swim inside and out in the open air, the pool will offer a waterfall and the addition of a new deckside event space.
