An Alberta mother who postponed a dream trip to Hawaii for her terminally ill son says she’s outraged by various politicians and staff who decided to travel abroad over the holidays.

Lia Lousier of Airdrie, just north of Calgary, says nine-year-old Braeden is one of 100 people in the world who has been diagnosed with a rare inherited connective tissue disease called Hajdu-Cheney syndrome.

She says that after years of hospital stays, her son was finally able to travel because he was doing better.

But their trip to Hawaii, arranged through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, was put off because of COVID-19.

The foundation, which grants wishes of children who are battling a critical illness, says it is working on an alternative wish for Braeden.

Spokeswoman April Stallings says the foundation has had to postpone 435 wishes because of the pandemic.
