PUB CRAWL: Poutine and a pint in Paris

Like the famed Maple Leaf Sports Bar & Grill in London, Canadians can find their own home away from home across the channel in Paris at the Canadian Embassy Pub. Not to be confused with the actual Canadian Embassy in Paris, this cozy establishment is located at 71 Boulevard Gouvion St. Cyr near the Palais de Congress and across from the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, and welcomes Canadians with flags out front and memorabilia like a Wayne Gretzky jersey and mascot Bruce the Moose inside.

A chalkboard sign is also known to feature the faces of Canuck icons like Drake, Justin Bieber, Georges St. Pierre, Celine Dion and Bryan Adams, that latter quoted as saying that everything he does, he does for the poutine served inside.

Poutine

The Quebecois delicacy is supplemented by typical pub fare like wings and a buffalo chicken burger that consistently draws raves. Meanwhile, some Canadian beers, including Moosehead and Cyclehops, are on tap.

Ten TV screens offer up the latest games, including NHL and other North American European sports and signature events like the World Cup, and patrons can also pony up to a pool table or play darts, pinball and shuffleboard in the games room.

Music is also top of mind with live bands on occasion and Canadian tunes are included in the recording offerings.

The Canadian Embassy (Pub) is open daily from 11 to 2 a.m. The closest Metro is Neuilly Porte Maillot (M1).

“Pub Crawl” is an ongoing series in which we reveal some of our favourite public houses, both at home and abroad – and, in the spirit of the establishment, invite you to share with us yours. Send suggestions to baginski@travelindustrytoday.com.
