Chicago is a great city to see from above and there are many impressive vantages (such as the top of the Willis Tower), but doing so with a drink in one’s hand is even better.
To that end, AIRE ranks as one of the midwestern city’s top rooftop patio bars, sitting atop the Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago. Not to be confused with the city’s similarly named spa venue, the patio delivers top-notch views, complimented by hand-crafted, artisan cocktails, local craft beers, and shareable plates, and caters to both a local clientele and visitors to the city and hotel.
While soaking up the 360-degree views – and suds – patrons can also take in the striking new 350-sq.-m. mural that AIRE debuted last summer. The stunning blacklight mural encompasses the entire east-, west-, and south-facing walls of AIRE, further enhancing the cityscape.
Designed and created by internationally acclaimed artist Onur, known for his futuristic and experimental painting techniques, the vintage-inspired piece is meant to immerse viewers in a dream-like “vignette” that evokes emotional and introspective feelings while drifting amongst the clouds.
Furnished with contemporary décor and natural plants and flowers, the seasonal space also takes into account Chicago’s unpredictable weather with open fireplaces for cool nights spent high above the city streets and umbrellas for shade on sunny summer days.
Located on the 24th floor of the Hyatt at 100 W. Monroe, AIRE is open Tuesday-Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m.
With summer in mind – and glass in hand – we at Travel Industry Today continue our seasonal series on some of the planet’s best bars, patios and rooftop venues to enjoy during the (hopefully good) weather. Send your suggestions to baginski@travelindustrytoday.com.
