30 AUG 2019: With summer in mind – and glass in hand – we at Travel Industry Today, continue our seasonal series on some of the planet’s best bars, patios and rooftop venues to enjoy during the (hopefully good) weather.
Jade Mountain is renowned as one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean, not least for its utterly unique architecture and unparalleled amenities and service. But it’s the spectacular setting on the island of Saint Lucia that stars on Jade’s marvellous Celestial Terrace. Yes, the stars are front and centre at night as the name implies, but it’s the Caribbean Sea and iconic Piton peaks – a UNESCO world heritage site – that command one’s attention from the rooftop sanctuary whether the sun is up or down.
Set on a hilltop on the lush island’s southwestern coast near Soufriere, Jade is perfectly positioned to view the Pitons with a picture-perfect setting framed by Caribbean blue, forest green, and dotted with white sail boats below. And while guests can take in the view from anywhere in the resort – especially from one’s individual infinity pool in the famous three walled rooms, the fourth utterly, wonderfully, open to the elements – the terrace is the uppermost vantage, and just steps above the restaurant, making for an ideal spot for an after-dinner respite or sunset cocktails.
On some nights the strains of live jazz or acoustic classical music entertainment enhances the mood, but trust us, this terrace hardly needs the accoutrements. It is Saint Lucian simplicity at its best and a setting made for Jade. A stay at the five-star resort isn’t necessarily cheap, but the view certainly is priceless!
