A Delta flight from West Palm Beach to LaGuardia earlier this week was forced to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York after its nose cone was nearly demolished by a hailstorm.
The Airbus managed to touch down safely at JFK around 7pm. No passengers or crew were injured in the incident. Pilots said the impact of the hail caused a problem with navigation equipment.
“Delta flight 1076 diverted to New York-JFK out of an abundance of caution following a mechanical issue. The flight landed safely and without incident and maintenance is evaluating the aircraft,” Delta said.
There were 43 passengers aboard the jet.
The US National Weather Service reported severe thunderstorms in northern New Jersey and New York at the time.
