NOT YET: CDC holds off mandatory testing for US domestic airline travel

Mandatory tests before domestic flights have been strongly opposed by the airline industry, who claimed such a move with further decimate the industry and in any event would be unworkable.

The White House met with airline executives on Friday.

While it’s still discouraging people to fly by asking Americans not to take any unnecessary travel, the organization said that, “At this time, CDC is not recommending required point of departure testing for domestic travel.”

“As part of our close monitoring of the pandemic, in particular the continued spread of variants, we will continue to review public health options for containing and mitigating spread of Covid-19 in the travel space.”

The CDC said it may revisit the issue it if cases of the new Covid variants remain high.
