NO CHANGES TO SAN JUAN CRUISE CALLS

Despite last week’s 6.4 magnitude earthquake and dozens of aftershocks over the past week, cruise lines are still calling at Puerto Rico as planned. A tsunami warning was initially issued but that was called off a short time later.

The Carnival Fascination based in San Juan had no changes to its itinerary.

“We are closely monitoring the situation in Puerto Rico and are in touch with local authorities and the US Coast Guard. The US Coast Guard issued a news release confirming that all ports in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are open for business,” Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador John Heald posted on Facebook.

Royal Caribbean is also remaining with its current schedule.

The Norwegian Encore and Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam called at San Juan on Tuesday as planned.

“While damage is still being assessed, it does not appear that areas outside the southern region of the Island were impacted heavily, however, Governor Vazquez has declared a state of emergency as a precaution. Many establishments have lost power but are prepared and are running on generators,” Discover Puerto Rico said in a statement.

The airport remains operational, although United Airlines is offering a flight change waiver to and from San Juan and Aguadilla for customers, allowing free flight changes up to January 10
