LISTENING IN: A little Coldplay Fix

Earlier this year, Coldplay earned raves for a film release of its sold out 10-night run at run at Buenos Aires’ River Plate stadium at the end of last year. The screening alone sold more than 6 million tickets and attracted rave reviews from fans and critics alike: with The Guardian calling it “genuinely stunning” the New York Post describing it as “a night for the history books,” and the Glasgow Evening Times heralding it as “the greatest show on Earth.”

All of which is to say, the British band is pretty good live.

Since their debut in 2000, Chris Martin and mates have never been far from the airwaves, or public eye (including Martin’s decade-long marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow), having released nine albums over the years and scoring hits such as “Yellow,” “The Scientist,” “Fix You,” “Viva La Vida,” “A Sky Full Of Stars” and “My Universe.”

My favourite is the stunning and poweful “Fix You,” said to be written for Paltrow after the death of her father. It appeared on the 2005 album “X&Y” and this performance is from Letterman in 2011.

Lyrics

When you try your best, but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I
Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
