Did anyone catch the CNN documentary on Linda Ronstadt on New Year’s Day? Oh, my goodness, what a talent! Which is not a revelation, of course, for anyone who grew up with the divine and diverse talent, of whom it was famously said, “She can sing anything.”
Ronstadt was a superstar in the ‘70s, and her accolades are too many to list here, though it bears mentioning that she kept company with an illustrious list of pop culture icons such as Michael Jackson, Bette Midler, Elizabeth Taylor and all The Beatles except John Lennon, (amongst others) in doing a cartoon cameo on The Simpsons, in her case in the hilariously unlikely role of burping Barney Gumble’s girlfriend in the 1992 episode, “Mr. Plow.”
In recent years, Ronstadt, who – fun fact – sparked the formation of The Eagles by members of her backing band, has been sidelined (from singing at least), by the onset of Parkinson’s disease, but as the CNN doc suggests, will never be forgotten.
Check out her classic song “When Will I Be Loved” from her heyday.
