Walt Disney Co. is apparently in discussions to relocate some of its office functions from its California headquarters to Florida. California is the base for its corporate headquarters, film, theme parks and other operations.
The Orlando Business Journal reports some functions may move to Lake Nona in southeast Orlando, but it is unclear what departments could make the move.
The news outlet cites a source with knowledge of the matter, but apparently there is as yet no firm decision.
One person with knowledge of the situation, suggested it would more than likely be just the theme parks division since a substantial number of the company’s theme park operations are already located in Central Florida. Several of Disney’s operations are already established in other areas such as the movies operations in Los Angeles and TV broadcasting in New York.
Walt Disney Co has been frustrated by California state and local officials who have refused the company’s plea to let Disneyland reopen.
Disneyland is expected to remain closed at least through March 2021 which would mark more than a full year shuttered.
Florida allowed Walt Disney World to reopen in the summer.
