With a vow to prevent users from getting “stuck down a research rabbit hole,” Michelin, the company best known for its car tires and restaurant rating guide, has launched a novel new way to discover hotels and destinations.
“Take Me Away” is a website that allows users to customize their search to find places that match a certain atmosphere, style or setting rather than having to start with dates and a location. Dubbed “A Michelin Experience,” the feature is part of the company’s Tablet Hotels division, which curates boutique hotels globally.
“Choose what you want from a destination and we’ll show you the hotels that can take you there,” proclaims the website, which has loaded hundreds of options around the world into its database.
Users simply check off bubbles in a series of categories: Location, setting, interests, style and vibe, each with its own subset of bubbles.
Looking for a secluded but hip hotel in the countryside? “Take Me Away” will show over two dozen matches. Modern design in a desert setting that’s also incredibly romantic? There are over a dozen to see here. Lively with a Michelin-rated restaurant? Coastal with a spa? Wine plus traditional? There are plenty of options, each shown with a full description and details, photos, comments from past guests, and a booking function with prices available in Canadian dollars.
Users can also narrow to one or more continents or use the “driving distance” or “staycation” options to see nearby options.
“’Take Me Away’ is a revamp of an all-time favourite that was due for a makeover, and we think its reappearance couldn’t have come at a more fitting time,” says Laurent Vernhes, CEO of Tablet Hotels, which was founded in 2000 in New York and joined the Michelin Group in 2018.
The company’s mission is to be a “source for discovering the world’s most interesting hotels — places where you’ll find a memorable experience, not just a room for the night.”
