Just a day after Puerto Rico said it was tossing its mask mandate, Hawaii announced that March 25 the same day Hawaii’s Safe Travels program officially expires, will be the last day masks will be compulsory. Hawaii is the last state to require mandatory masks.
“I want to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment to keeping our community safe. I know this is a milestone many have been waiting for,” Gov. David Ige tweeted.
“If we see another surge, we will be ready to reinstitute the mask policy if needed.”
However, while post March 25 masks will not be mandatory, Hawaii still recommends masking up in some indoor settings such as healthcare facilities, while ‘businesses can implement appropriate restrictions.’
Hawaii recorded 237,500 cases and more than 1,350 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
