13 NOV 2017: EasyJet has a new CEO and his is a familiar face to the Canadian travel and tourism industry. Johan Lundgren will replace Carolyn McCall as chief executive of the airline.
McCall will step down at the end of this month, but will stay on at easyJet until the end of December and Lundgren will officially join easyJet on December 1.
EasyJet chairman John Barton said, “I and the easyJet board are delighted to announce Johan as our new CEO.
“Johan has proven experience in European travel as CEO and in broader group roles.
“He is strategic yet operationally focussed and has proved himself to be a customer-centric, charismatic and successful leader.”
Lundgren has spent 30 years in the travel industry, including 12 with TUI Group, where he was group deputy chief executive officer and chief executive officer of Mainstream Markets. During a stint in Canada, he was also president of Sunquest.
Lundgren said, “I have flown with and been a fan of easyJet and its wonderful people for many years.
“This is an exciting time to be joining Europe’s leading airline. Carolyn has built a fantastic team and with them I look forward to contributing to easyJet’s continued success.”
