Once again Heathrow is Europe’s busiest airport. While still not at pre-Covid numbers, The UK’s largest airport saw 5.8 million passengers during September, and while that beat Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Madrid it was 15% below 2019 passenger traffic.
The London airport handled more passengers than other European hub between July and September.
Still, Heathrow warned of an uncertain winter. While the Christmas season is expected to be busy, the overall travel outlook cannot be easily predicted.
In July, Heathrow capped the number of passengers travelling through the airport at 100,000 a day due to labour shortages. That cap is expected to be removed in late October.
Heathrow said the passenger cap helped to balance out supply and demand to more manageable levels reducing last-minute cancellations
“Heathrow has grown more in the past 12 months than any airport in Europe and we’ve delivered a great passenger experience to the vast majority of travellers,” said Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye.
“While we face many economic headwinds our aim is to get back to full capacity as soon as possible.”
