Cruise lines may be desperate to get their ships back in service, but they’re taking it cautiously, because it won’t be simple. Carnival Cruise Line’s latest blueprint lays out a phased-in resumption of cruising by just eight of its 28 ships beginning Aug. 1. Other cruises remain cancelled through September.
Realizing that people are reluctant to fly, the ships will sail from three drive-to ports. Carnival aims to resume service from PortMiami on Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sensation, from Port Canaveral on Carnival Breeze and Carnival Elation and from Galveston on Carnival Dream, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Vista.
Other Carnival cruises are canceled until at least Aug. 31. Alaska and Hawaii are off the map for the rest of the year, with Carnival Spirit cruises to Alaska from Seattle cancelled and a September cruise on Carnival Splendor from Vancouver to Hawaii won’t happen either.
