CANADIAN LOW COST CARRIERS EXPAND SERVICES

Two of Canada’s largest low-cost carriers propose expansion in the budget leisure market. Flair Airlines will bolster its current routes with daily frequency increases to locations including Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Lynx Air also announced plans for expansion in 2023 with service the US market starting early next year.

The Edmonton-based Flair said it plans to expand its fleet to 30 aircraft, up from 20, by the end of next year, with planned service to 70 routes and is a step toward Flair’s five-year plan to reach 50 aircraft. Flair spokesman Mike Arnot says the airline plans to be Canada’s third largest domestic airline by next summer

Calgary based Lynx Air is expanding into the United States with the addition of Orlando, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas to its network starting in early 2023. Orlando will be Lynx’s first US destination, with four times weekly flights taking off from Toronto starting in January 2023.

The cross-border network will continue to expand, with the launch of services in February out of Calgary to Phoenix, Los Angeles (both 3x weekly), and Las Vegas (4x weekly).

At that point, Lynx will be operating 5,292 seats per week to and from the US from its Toronto and Calgary hubs.

“With winter approaching, we know Canadians love to travel south in search of warmer weather. We are thrilled to be offering an ultra-affordable option to four of the most popular sun destinations in the United States,” said Merren McArthur, CEO of Lynx.
