Boca Raton City Council has overwhelmingly approved a proposal for construction of a downtown rail station making it the next likely stop on the Brightline Florida (soon to rebrand as Virgin Trains USA) rail network.
The Council approved a lease for 1.8 acres of land for the station which could open by the end of 2020.
Brightline will fund construction on the station while the city will design and build an adjacent car parking garage.
Boca Raton will join West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami on the rail network and stations at Aventura and Orlando will also be added.
“Many community partners have discussed how this train station is a game changer and puts us on the map. Once open, these vital transportation upgrades will provide benefits to Boca’s residents and businesses,” said Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer.
