18 AUG 2017: SeaWorld’s legacy of animal rescue spans more than 50 years. In that time, the SeaWorld Rescue Team has come to the aid of more than 30,000 ill, injured and orphaned animals in need. That’s nearly 30,000 animals that were given a second chance at life, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the SeaWorld Rescue and Animal Care teams. It would also not be possible without the support of partner agencies, park guests, and people across the globe who take action to protect these amazing animals.
Research is also an important part of SeaWorld’s commitment to conservation and has been a part of what they do at SeaWorld since the beginning. Aside from publishing its own research (SeaWorld experts have published more than 300 scientific studies), SeaWorld contributes to other research projects, shares its parks and amazing animals as an important and vital research environment, and funds research projects around the world.
The parks provide a unique environment that gives the team, along with outside researchers and scientists, the ability to better understand marine mammals, among many other species. In the wild, studying these animals can often be difficult or even impossible, not to mention dangerous for both the animals and people.
Outside its parks, SeaWorld provides direct support to field researchers across the globe working to understand and save species through the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, research foundations associated with and supported by SeaWorld, and through partnerships like the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute.
SeaWorld’s conservation efforts inspire millions of people each year to take action and protect wild animals and wild places. The parks’ commitment to research and conservation also has led to advances in the care of animals in both zoological facilities and wild populations worldwide.
