CATHAY CANCELLATIONS CONTINUE DUE TO ENGINE ISSUE

Cathay Pacific says maintenance activity on its A350 fleet is “progressing well” after being forced to cancel dozens of flights this week after an engine issue forced a Zurich-bound flight to return to an airport in Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific, based in Hong Kong, has scratched nearly 70 flights since Monday, though none from Canada.

The airline has inspected all 48 of its Airbus A350s and found 15 aircraft with faulty parts that need to be replaced. It added that the remaining aircraft will continue to be out of service until they have been repaired and cleared for operation and that 10 regional return flights would be cancelled Wednesday.

All affected aircraft are expected resume operations by Saturday, said the airline.

“At Cathay, safety of our customers and our people guides every decision we make. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding,” the company said in a statement.

The airline is also waiving all ticket rebooking and rerouting charges on affected flights; details can be found on the Cathay website.
