LISTENING IN: This is ground control to C!C!C!

Regular readers will know there’s nothing Listening In likes better than a good choir. And suggestions from the flock. This week the two come together with Elvi Cal’s (TravelBrands) introduction to us of Choir! Choir! Choir! (C!C!C!), a unique Toronto-based initiative that started in 2011 as a singing event that interprets popular songs like David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” performed here at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

From humble beginnings, founding duo Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman now travel around the world inviting “friends, foes, and strangers” to “drop-in” to take part in the first-rate performances (they teach the parts) of songs spanning ABBA to Wham! – and all in the name of charity.

Countless venues over the years have ranged from simple bars to large music festivals, as well as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Massey Hall, Lincoln Center, Parliament Hill, even The Juno Awards.

And guests singers such as David Byrne, Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright, Rick Astley, Bruce Cockburn, Colin Hay (Men At Work), and many more, have joined in.

There are plenty of inspiring C!C!C! videos to be found on YouTube, and check out upcoming show venues (including Picton, Ont. on Saturday night) HERE.
