ACTA says it is meeting with Ontario government officials on Nov. 30 to make its case for reform of the funding framework for the Travel Industry Council of Ontario, and member fees in the province. But in the meantime, the association is urging members to make their voices heard – no later than Mon. Nov. 27 – over changes to a model it says is inherently broken.
The latter date is the deadline to submit letters to government officials (including MPPs), both auto-generated and personal, with the aim of having ACTA member’s letters support ACTA’s message in preparation for its government meetings.
Noting that consultations have now closed for the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) Funding Framework and Fee Review, ACTA says the window to change the system is open now “and it could be years before it is opened again.”
ACTA is urgently requesting all Ontario travel agency registrants to personally advocate to the Ontario government to “finally fix this 40-year-old legislation and its regulations, which in no way reflect the environment of the Ontario travel industry today.”
ACTA says it has publicly and repeatedly stated that the TICO Proposals are essentially cosmetic changes – and “simply band-aids on a broken system,” adding, “The proposed funding framework is not based on the risk profile of the registrant, and the consumer is not legislated to contribute, leaving the burden squarely on the shoulders of Ontario travel agencies and tour operators.”
