Planning to head across our southern border this summer? While there are certainly bargains to be had, you’ll need to loosen your wallet for some popular holiday spots. According to the latest survey of summertime travel trends, the two popular islands off Cape Cod in Massachusetts, are the most expensive places to stay in the United States this summer.

Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard topped the rankings with average rates a whopping $525 and $485 per night, respectively, for the least expensive double room.

The survey compared accommodation rates across all US destinations during the month of August 2022. Only hotels or inns rated at least 3 stars and located close to a beach or city center were considered.

Montauk, a village situated at the eastern tip of the Long Island peninsula in New York State, filled out the top three with a rate of $416 per night.

New York State also took the sixth spot represented by Saratoga Springs with average rates at $372 per night.

Long Beach Island, New Jersey, is in 4th position, averaging $384 per night.

California also has two destinations in the top ten: Avalon ($371) and Huntington Beach ($357) in 7th and 8th spot, respectively while Maine is represented by Bar Harbor ($383) and Kennebunkport ($354), in 5th and 9th positions, respectively.

Here’s the list of the 10 most expensive summer destinations in the United States this year. The prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room for the period spanning August 1 – August 31, 2022.
