Starting April 7, Canadians will have a new carrier to consider, with Calgary-based Lynx Air set to take flight. The ultra low-cost airline (formerly Enerjet) has announced its first flight, destinations, and opened booking via its website.
Initially, Lynx will offer five domestic destinations: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Kelowna, and Winnipeg, with flights utilizing brand-new Boeing 737 aircraft.
The inaugural flight will take to the skies on Thursday, April 7 from Calgary to Vancouver, which subsequently will feature daily flights, increasing to twice daily flights on May 20.
Toronto will join the network on April 11 with four flights from Calgary in the first week, increasing to seven flights the following week. Daily flights between Toronto and Vancouver will be launched on April 28.
The carrier’s routes will continue to expand over the following weeks, with two services a week to Kelowna from each of Calgary and Vancouver starting on April 15, while Winnipeg will be added on April 19 with two flights per week to each of Calgary and Vancouver. Flights from Calgary to Winnipeg will increase to four per week on May 5.
Launch fares are from $39 one-way and can be booked online.
Lynx Air CEO Merren McArthur says the airline intends to be operating 76 weekly flights by May. “And that is just the beginning,” she says. “We will continue to add destinations and routes as we ramp up for the busy summer season, offering even more choice and flexibility to Canadians. Stay tuned for more announcements soon.”
With headquarters in Calgary, the airline carrier ¬¬– co-founded by former senior WestJet executive Tim Morgan – will utilize a fleet of brand-new Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring leading-edge fuel-efficient technology. The airline has firm orders and lease agreements in place for a total of 46 aircraft over the next seven years to meet anticipated demand.
