ROUND-UP:Nov. 8-12, 2021

Last week’s news includes the re-opening of the US land border, prompting further calls from the industry to shelve PCR tests for vaxxed travellers; Ireland accepts mixed doses; ACTA urgently wants your opinion to help it continue advocating for industry aid; and agents can win cash in a Myrtle Beach trivia contest.

NEWS

Tourism Ireland reports that travellers are now considered fully vaccinated and able to enter the country if they have received two doses of any combination of a vaccine approved for use in Ireland, including – notably for many Canadians – AstraZeneca. Varied time lags apply after the 2nd dose depending on the vaccine.

ACTA is urging travel counsellors to take part in a survey it is conducting to provide data it needs to aid advocacy efforts to secure ongoing financial support for the industry from the federal government. A similar survey was conducted in June, but the new version will reflect developments in the industry since then as well as including new questions for independent travel agents. Responses must be completed by Nov. 16. To participate, click HERE.

On Nov. 8, Canadians were at last able to cross into the US by land as Customs and Border Protection agents began letting fully vaccinated vacationers, visitors, and day-trippers drive into the country for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

A campaign by Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable continued last week in western Canada with the representatives of the travel and related businesses calling for Canada to shelve PCR testing for fully vaccinated arrivals – an unnecessary protocol that continues to produce a travel chill that hampers recovery.

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment is supporting Manatee Awareness month in November. With a record breaking 1,000 manatee deaths in 2021, populations have diminished to dangerously low levels and they face many threats, most dramatically starvation due to depletion of sea grass, their primary food source, along with cold stress, injuries from boat strikes, entanglements, and other illnesses.
