The response was certainly overwhelming. When Royal Caribbean opened applications to people willing to be subjects in cruises to test health protocols laid out by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 250,000 volunteers raised their hands.
And while only a tiny fraction of them will actually be needed for the test cruises, it suggests there’s a huge pent-up demand for getting back at sea.
Not everyone is thrilled at the process, though. While other lines are requiring guests to have full vaccination to sail Royal Caribbean is only making having COVID shots a “recommendation.” And that has many potential guests commenting on cruise blogs that they’ll be taking their business elsewhere, at least in the short term because they don’t want to chance having the cruise cut short due to an outbreak among unvaccinated passengers on board.
