The only thing better than discovering a great pub in a destination is finding a whole bunch of them. And to that end, the tourist promotion board of Salt Lake City, Utah, says it is ready to serve with a special pass designed to encourage visitors to sample the city’s burgeoning brew-pub scene.
With Salt Lake better known for its church and famous choir than its beverages, the city’s tourism promotion board acknowledges that most visitors are probably unaware of the western city’s status as “the capital of Brewtah.”
But with more than a dozen popular breweries and brewpubs represented, Visit Salt Lake president and CEO Kaitlin Eskelson says, “The Brewery Pass is a fun way to explore Salt Lake’s suds and the different neighbourhoods where they’re brewed.”
The pass entitles holders to a US$5 credit on beer, food, and merchandise at each of the participating venues, ensuring that it “pairs nicely… with the city’s cultural attractions, live summer concerts, and epic hiking and mountain biking,” according to Eskelson.
Passholders will be able to sample a wide range of liquid offerings at the 14 participating pubs and breweries, including award-winning craft ales, lagers, porters, and ciders.
Currently included on the continually growing list are: Bewilder Brewing Co., Desert Edge Brewery, Fisher Brewing Company, Kiitos Brewing, Level Crossing Brewing Company, Mountain West Cider, Proper Brewing Co., Red Rock Brewing Co., RoHa Brewing Project, SaltFire Brewing Co., Shades Brewing, Squatters Pub, Toasted Barrel Brewery, and West Side Tavern (Squatters & Wasatch Beers).
Priced at US$20, $30 and $40 for one, three- and 90-day options (the latter meant for locals and long-stay visitors), the Brewery Pass activates on first use. As such, it can be purchased in advance on the Visit Salt Lake website and downloaded onto a mobile device, though it must be used within 180 days of purchase.
Take note that passholders must be at least 21 years old to consume alcoholic beverages in Utah.
