MORE MARKETPLACE IN MAY: Expanded Caribbean show goes virtual

Registration has opened for the Caribbean’s premiere travel trade event, Caribbean Travel Marketplace, which is set to take place in a virtual format from May 11 to 14 after being postponed from January due to the pandemic.

Organized by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), the 39th annual event has been expanded to four days this year, with Vanessa Ledesma, CHTA’s Acting CEO and Director General, stating, “The virtual format allows us to incorporate other elements to supplement the event without impacting the core appointments.”

A virtual conference will also enable participants to add more meetings to their schedules from the comfort of their offices, while saving on travel and accommodation expenses, she says.

Ledesma expects a “dynamic and robust gathering” as “the world emerges from COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and the pent-up demand for travel fuels the revival of the Caribbean’s main bread earner, tourism.”

Noting the advantages of a virtual conference, she says participants, who include travel trade, destination and supplier executives and representatives, and media, will be able to add more meetings to their schedules from the comfort of their offices, while saving on travel and accommodation expenses.

Pre-conference informational sessions will help attendees gain a better understanding of regional destinations as well as what they should know about the rapidly changing entry requirements and safety protocols, and a special “How to Marketplace” webinar will take place to guide attendees through the myriad Marketplace offerings.
